About us
A stage for the second life of a song.
The origins of PLST
We have two strong beliefs:
We believe that every song has two lives.
There’s the life before a song is released, which involves the artists who worked on it, the inspiration behind it and the environment in which it was created. The second life starts after it’s released to the public and is about the role or character the song plays in the listener’s life.
You’ve definitely watched or listened to shows that reflect the first life.
- Diary of a Song by The New York Times
- Song Exploder
- Story of My Song by AmEx
- VH1 Storytellers
Playlist Storytellers is all about exploring the second life of songs through interesting stories told by music fans.

We believe context makes songs sound better
Movie scenes, TikTok trends, music videos and great stories all have one thing in common: they give the listener something to associate the music with. The song activates the emotions in the narrative you’ve watched or heard, which gives the song more meaning.
That’s why the audience listens to the song after each story at a PLST show. We know that a great story can change the way you listen to a song.

Behind the brand
Like all great things, Danny created Playlist Storytellers to build the thing he wished he had growing up — a place to share experiences with others and listen to the songs that played a part in those experiences.
What started in living rooms with a handful of music fans grew into a bigger dream. PLST is now a live show where preselected people share stories about the songs that shaped their lives.

As of June 2026, Playlist Storytellers is a staple in Toronto and has been brought to NYC, Yosemite, Melbourne and the 2026 JUNOS.

Why the show works the way it does
Everything is built to give the audience the best experience possible. We focus on three things.
01
Story direction
Every storyteller works with our story director, Jacob Kelly, for three weeks before the show.
02
Audio experience
Pre-recorded audio intros and a high-quality sound system, so you're fully inside each song.
03
Show length
70 minutes, no intermission. Tight enough to stay with you, long enough to go deep.
